Advances in genetic technologies are rapidly expanding the availability and accuracy of prenatal tests. In Australia, ~4% of babies are born with a congenital abnormality and many of these are detected during pregnancy. Our experienced, interdisciplinary team will use a mixed methods longitudal approach to explore the psychosocial impact and supports needed by women, following diagnosis of fetal abnormality, to develop a framework of supportive care. This is the first Australian study to document directly to improving the care of women and teh education of the health professionals who care for them.
