Project Description
Japanese Studies at Monash University seeks part funding for the 31st Japanese/Korean Linguistics Conference (JK). Monash University will run the conference in collaboration with Korean Studies from October 30 to November 2, 2024. The Conference runs over four days and is a combination of pre-conference workshops, keynotes, panel presentations and poster presentations. The Conference usually attracts between 50 and 80 delegates from Japan, Korea and around the world.
JK is a professional organization of scholars working on Japanese and Korean linguistics. Inaugurated in 1989, it is the only long-running annual international conference and the single most important opportunity for Japanese and Korean linguistics experts to get together in a research environment focused on languages. JK has taken place in the Northern Hemisphere primarily in North America, Japan, Korea and UK, but not yet in Australasia. JK31 will be the first conference in the Southern Hemisphere.
The objectives of JK31 are: to bridge the growing number of Japanese and Korean linguists in the region with the extant JK community, position Monash University as a regional research hub on Japanese and Korean linguistics, and foster cultural exchanges between Japan and Korea within our research and education.
