Dr Andrew David Jackson’s 2016 book, The 1728 Musin Rebellion: Politics and Plotting in Eighteenth-Century Korea published by Hawaii University Press, was one of five books selected for The AKS KSPS Academy of Korean Studies Korean Studies Promotion Service Book Award for 2016 announced in January 2018.
The other winning publications were:
• UCLA Professor Robert E Buswell Jnr's English translation of Korean classic Numinous Awareness Is Never Dark: The Korean Buddhist Master Chinul’s Excerpts on Zen Practice (2007);
• Seoul University Professor Sem Vermeersch's English translation of Korean classic A Chinese Traveler in Medieval Korea: Xu Jing’s Illustrated Account of the Xuanhe Embassy to Koryō(2007);
• A Dictionary of Korean Indigenous Terminology (2011) by Choi Yoon-oh (Yonsei University); and
• A Social History of Korean Rice in the Modern Era (2010) by Professor Kim Tae-ho (Chonbuk National University).
Consideration was based on criteria including the domestic and international research impact, boosting awareness of Korean Studies abroad, and encouraging research of young scholars.
Awards for these five works was presented in December 2017 by the South Korean Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Mr Lee Joon-sik.
