Biography

Zimu is an epidemiologist specialising in non-communicable diseases. He is a Research Fellow in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (SPHPM) at Monash University, where his research focuses on cognitive ageing and dementia within the ASPREE investigator group. His work applies epidemiological and biostatistical approaches to large, population-based cohort studies.

Zimu’s research focuses on three key areas:

1) Blood-based biomarkers of dementia-related brain changes;

2) Modifiable risk and protective factors for dementia;

3) Cognitive reserve and resilience in ageing populations.

During his PhD at Monash University, Zimu examined the natural trajectories of cognitive function in older age. He collaborates across a wide range of geriatric research areas, including epigenetic ageing, neuroimaging, cardiovascular disease, social health, environmental determinants, and target trial emulation. In addition, he has contributed to research in other clinical domains, such as cancer, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, liver failure, and clinical services research.

Zimu’s work has been published in scientific journals across geriatrics, neurology, oncology, and general medicine. His research findings have attracted broad national and international media attention, featuring on 7 News, 9 News, ABC Health Report, Forbes, Daily Mail, and other major outlets worldwide.
