Biography

Yiwen is a Research Fellow in Planetary Health at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University. She completed her PhD at Monash University in December 2025, with a focus on the intersection of environmental science and public health.

Yiwen’s research centres on understanding the health consequences of environmental exposures, with particular emphasis on air pollution and extreme climate events. Drawing on large-scale epidemiological methods, her work examines how these environmental stressors affect population health outcomes — including mental health, metabolic disease, and broader non-communicable conditions — with the aim of informing evidence-based public health policy responses to climate change.

Yiwen has contributed to more than 50 peer-reviewed articles. As first author, she has published in highly prestigious journals including Nature Sustainability, Nature Mental Health, Diabetes Care, Journal of Hazardous Materials, and Environment International. She is also among the lead authors on several publications in top-tier journals such as The Lancet Planetary Health, Nature Communications, and PLOS Medicine.

Yiwen’s work accumulated over 1,000 citations and an h-index of 16. Beyond academic circles, Yiwen’s research has attracted broad media coverage, reflecting its relevance to pressing global health and environmental challenges.

Through her research, Yiwen is committed to advancing scientific understanding of how climate change and environmental degradation shape human health, ultimately contributing to the development of more resilient and equitable public health systems in the face of a changing planet.
