Personal profile
Biography
Dr Liam (Yanming) Liu is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University. His research bridges environmental health, civil engineering, artificial intelligence, and climate-resilient built environments. He has expertise in climate and environmental epidemiology, air pollution monitoring, deep learning, computer vision, cementitious materials, microstructure analysis, and low-carbon construction technologies.
His work focuses on the health impacts of environmental and built-environment exposures, including heatwaves, air pollution, flooding, and construction-related emissions, while also developing AI-enabled tools for environmental monitoring and sustainable infrastructure. Dr Liu has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, receiving over 3,000 citations. His key publication areas include sustainable cementitious materials, construction waste reuse, AI-assisted material characterisation, camera-based air pollution sensing, and climate-health epidemiology. His research aims to support healthier, more resilient, and lower-carbon cities by connecting engineering innovation with public health impact.
