Biography

Dr Yanlu Xing is an experienced geologist and geochemist who completed his PhD at Monash University in 2019, specialising in geochemistry and economic geology. He held a postdoctoral position at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, working on NSF- and NASA-funded deep ocean exploration projects, and later led an ARC Linkage Project at Monash University’s School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment. In 2023, Dr Xing was awarded an ARC DECRA fellowship to advance research on rare earth element (REE) minerals. His work integrates field studies, hydrothermal experiments, and geochemical modelling to investigate fluid–mineral reactions, supporting improved mineral exploration and innovative ore processing for deposits such as porphyry copper, IOCG, and orogenic gold systems.

Current research interests:

  • Critical metal hydrothermal transport
  • Mineral replacement reactions
  • Geochemical modelling of ore forming processes
  • in-situ Synchrotron experiments with application to geological samples
