Biography

William Lye is one of His Majesty’s Counsel with over 36 years of expertise in general commercial and private international law. As a senior legal professional, his diverse practice spans corporations and securities law, intellectual property, international arbitration, and mediation.

He has contributed significantly to governance in educational and multicultural sectors, demonstrating a strong commitment to strategic leadership, ethics, and inclusivity.

He is a passionate advocate for educational excellence and cultural diversity. As Chief Moot Coach at Monash University and founder of the Asian Australian Lawyers Association, he has mentored future legal professionals and promoted diversity in law.

His public service is marked by his recognition with the Order of Australia Medal, awarded for his contributions to law, business, and cultural diversity. His leadership extends to roles as Council Member at Swinburne University and Deputy National Chairman of the Order of Australia Association Limited, highlighting his governance skills and financial acumen.

His research interests are in: Mooting and Advocacy, Public International Law, International Criminal Law (Universal Jurisdiction and Trials in Absentia), Reciprocal Recognition of Enforcement of Foreign Judgments, AI and Workflows, and Multicultural Lawyering.
