Biography

Dr. Wei Lun Ng joined Monash University Malaysia in 2026 as a Senior Lecturer. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biotechnology from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia, and both a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Evolutionary Genetics from Kyushu University, Japan. His doctoral research investigated patterns of genetic variation in Indo-West Pacific Rhizophora mangroves.

Following the completion of his PhD, Dr. Ng returned to Malaysia in 2014 to undertake postdoctoral research at Universiti Putra Malaysia, contributing to projects in evolutionary genetics across a range of organisms. In 2016, he joined Sun Yat-sen University, China, for a second postdoctoral appointment, where he specialised in plant evolutionary genomics and employed high-throughput sequencing technologies to examine the role of hybridisation in the evolution of the plant genus Melastoma.

From 2018 to 2025, Dr. Ng served at Xiamen University Malaysia, where he last served as Associate Professor and Head of Programme. During this period, he taught and developed courses in ecology and evolution, genetics, and scientific communication, while also contributing to academic leadership and programme development.

Dr. Ng's research focuses on the application of genetic and genomic approaches to address fundamental questions in ecology and evolution, with particular interests in biodiversity and their biotechnological potential.
