Biography
Wayne Gumley is a senior lecturer in the Department of Business Law and Taxation.
Wayne started his career as a Barrister and Solicitor in a general commercial practice in Victoria, and later became a Principal Legal Officer with the Australian Government Solicitor's Office in Melbourne, where he acted on a wide range of taxation and administrative law matters on behalf of Commonwealth Government. At Monash University, he has taught a wide range of taxation and commercial law units and also established several new environmental law units. He has served on professional committees at the Law Institute of Victoria, the Australasian Insurance Law Association and National Environmental Law Association. In 2014 he was accepted as a member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law. Wayne’s research interests include administrative law, taxation law, ecological tax reform, environmental law and corporate environmental responsibility, and he has current research projects on ecological tax reform, environmental impact assessment, corporate social responsibility and regulatory strategies for management of e-waste. He is currently a member of the CSIRO funded Cluster Project, Wealth from Waste, which is a partnership between four Australian universities and Yale in the USA conducting a multi-disciplinary investigation of options for recycling of metals from waste streams in Australia.
