Biography

Vishnu Monn Baskaran received his B.Eng. (First-Class Honours) and M.Eng. degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 2004 and 2007, respectively. In 2016, he earned a Ph.D. in Engineering from Multimedia University, Malaysia. He served at Multimedia University from 2009 to 2017, and prior to that, he worked as an R&D Engineer at Panasonic R&D Centre Malaysia from 2005 to 2009.

In 2018, Vishnu joined the School of IT at Monash University Malaysia as an academic staff member and continues to contribute to the University. He currently serves as the Deputy Head of Education at the School of IT. During his tenure, he took on the role of course coordinator for the Bachelor of Computer Science in Data Science program, where he successfully secured full accreditation from the Malaysian Board of Technologists (MBOT). As Deputy Head of School (Education), he has made significant contributions to the School’s growth by fostering a strong partnership with the Faculty of IT at Monash Australia and supporting student enrollment initiatives.

Vishnu's research expertise spans multidisciplinary parallel computing, predictive analytics and statistics, computer vision, and artificial intelligence. He has successfully secured industrial and government research grants totalling MYR 1 million as the principal investigator and has published extensively in the fields of computer vision and artificial intelligence. His academic teaching experience includes programming courses, and he served as the chief examiner for the Parallel Computing unit until 2023.

In addition, Vishnu is the director of the Advanced Computing Platform at Monash University Malaysia. In this capacity, he spearheaded the establishment of a state-of-the-art high-performance computing facility, further enhancing the University’s research capabilities.
