Biography

Victor Araneda Jure is a Chilean-born independent filmmaker, educator, and creative director with experience in Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Chile. His work spans short films, music videos, and advertising campaigns, many of which have been recognised at international film festivals.

Victor holds a PhD in Film Studies from Monash University, where he explored the creative process in adapting alternative comics into independent films. He also earned a Master’s in Film and Television from the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne.

As a Lecturer in the School of Media, Film, and Journalism at Monash University, Victor teaches film, media, and advertising. His approach emphasises real-world applications, having integrated client-based projects into his courses, where students develop creative campaigns and video content for industry partners. He also has experience in curriculum development and leadership, serving as Head Tutor in core film studies units. His research on adaptation in film and media convergence has been presented at academic conferences in Australia and Europe.

Beyond academia, Victor has worked as a creative director, screenwriter, and publicist for renowned agencies such as DDB, BBDO, FCB, and GSL NZ, bridging storytelling with strategic communication.

Outside of work, Victor enjoys watching movies, exploring the outdoors, bouldering, playing video games, and reading books and comics.

Research interests

Victor's research interests lie at the intersection of film, comics, and media studies, with a particular focus on the creative process in adapting alternative comics into independent films. He explores how media convergence and the self-adaptation of works influence narrative structures and audience reception. Through his work, Victor examines the complex relationships between source material and its adaptation, offering new perspectives on the evolving nature of storytelling in contemporary cinema and media.
