Biography

Dr Vanessa Echeverria is a Research Fellow in the Centre of Learning Analytics (CoLAM) group at Monash University. She also holds a position as Assistant Professor at Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) in Ecuador. Before joining Monash, she was a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, where she worked with Professors Vincent Aleven and Nikol Rummel. She obtained her doctoral degree in 2020 at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia, under the supervision of Prof. Simon Buckingham-Shum and Dr Roberto Martinez-Maldonado.

Vanessa’s research sits in an interdisciplinary space to leverage Human-Centered Computing and Artificial Intelligence disciplines by co-designing, testing and deploying educational AI solutions with different educational stakeholders and practitioners. These AI solutions are developed under the richness of multimodal data and analytics in physical and digital environments. Vanessa’s research also examines new methods for analysing and communicating meaningful insights extracted from analytics to practitioners and learners. Currently, Vanessa is working under the supervision of Dr Roberto Martinez-Maldonado and Prof. Dragan Gasevic, in the ARC project Teamwork Analytics.
