Personal profile

Biography

I am a post-doctoral fellow working in the Neuroimmunology, Neuroinflammation and Neurooncology Laboratory. My research involves examining the role of neuroinflammation in epilepsy and seizures. I am also analysing electroencephalogram (EEG) signals from patients with autoimmune encephalitis and correlating them with patient symptoms, brain scans and outcomes to find unique patterns that may help clinicians more rapidly predict disease subtype and severity and thereby optimise patient management. I have completed the highest level of training (level 3) in EEG interpretation from ANZAN (Australia and New Zealand Association of Neurologists) which allows me to establish an EEG laboratory at a hospital or teaching institution.

I received my PhD in 2024 exploring the role of various immune and inflammation related biomarkers in human drug resistant epilepsy and status epilepticus and their implications for diagnosis, prognosis and future treatment trials.

My training as a clinician neurologist specialising in epilepsy as well as neuroimmunology, and my laboratory skills in neuroscience, allows me a deeper appreciation of bench to bedside translational clinical research. My experience treating patients with seizures, epilepsy and autoimmune
encephalitis and the diagnostic and prognostic uncertainties frequently encountered, has given me a passion to engage in further research in this field.

I work as part of the Australian Autoimmune Encephalitis Consortium – an Australia first collaborative translational research network focusing on autoimmune encephalitides which has, to date, enrolled over 350 patients with AE from 14 sites across the country.

Clinical activities

I am a neurologist at Alfred Health practicing in the subspeciality fields of epilepsy and neuroimmunology following the completion of dual clinical fellowships in both epilepsy and neuroimmunology.
