Personal profile

Biography

I am a researcher working across public health, sociology of health and social psychology. I specialise in examining how the public access, understand and use information about health and healthcare.

My present work examines public understandings of low value medical care and vaccine attitudes in Australia. My previous research examined mental health among stigmatised populations.

I specialise in qualitative interpretative research and psychosocial survey research, but I utilise a broad range of other methods, including meta-synthesis, evidence appraisal techniques and content analysis.

I have taught into a range of courses at RMIT University's School of Global, Urban and Social Studies (GUSS) and at La Trobe University in the areas of sociology, social research methods and public health.

I regularly comment in the media, and I have been featured by ABC Radio National, SBS, NewsCorp, and I have written for the Conversation. My work has influenced health promotion policy and practice in Australia and the United Kingdom.
