Biography

Dr Tess Bartlett is a Research Fellow within the Gender and Family Violence Prevention Centre. She completed her PhD at Monash in 2018 and has worked as a researcher and teaching associate in higher education since 2008 working on a number of projects researching families in the criminal justice system. Tess’ work focuses on critical masculinities, identity and fathering and how these are expressed in the prison environment and in carceral spaces. She has won a number of awards and scholarships for her research on imprisoned primary carer fathers including the award for the best postgraduate presentation at the Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology Postgraduate and Early Career Researcher Conference in Hobart (2016) and the Victorian Postgraduate Criminology Conference award for best abstract (2017). She has also published in high ranking peer-reviewed journals including Punishment and Society, Child Care in Practice, International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology, The Probation Journal and Law and Context. Tess is a recognised member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology.
