Sundy Ni-Yen Yang is an early career researcher working in Jans' Nuclear Signalling Laboratory. She has considerable expertise in molecular and cellular biology, protein chemistry, virology and drug discovery. Currently, she is particularly focused on identifying novel antiviral agents, with a focus on RNA viruses of medical significance, including COVID-19, Dengue, Zika virus and respiratory syncytial virus. She has significant experience in a wide range of techniques, including AlphaScreen assays, thermostability assays, virus infectivity and replication assays, confocal microscopy, siRNA knockdown, and recombinant protein expression and purification.
Dr Yang completed her PhD in 2008 and has worked equivalent of 4.5 years Full Time Equivalent (FTE) post PhD (completed in 2008) due to the child-bearing/carer responsibilities. Over less than 5 years she has authored 15 peer-reviewed publications (first author on 10) in high impact journals within the fields of biochemistry and virology, including Journal of Biological Chemistry and Antiviral Research. Her work as attracted over 430 citations; 4 of her papers have more than 60 citations. Sundy also is an experienced unit coordinator, education coordinator (a master course) and teaching associate with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry.
