Biography

Dr Ellem is a cancer researcher within the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology at Monash University, Australia. His research program examines estrogen synthesis and action in the prostate, particularly the opposing roles of the estrogen receptors (ERa and ERb) and the emerging link between aberrant estrogen exposure, inflammation, and prostate cancer.

His laboratory is particularly focussed on the importance of the tumour microenvironment and the role of the tumour stroma, work that is underpinned by the analysis of human tissues, including pathology and in-vitro modelling, and is complemented by transgenic, tissue recombination, and xenografting models.

His research is supported by National and International funding bodies, including the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council, Victorian Cancer Council, the United States Department of Defense, the Movember Foundation and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
