Mr Bell is a Specialist Colorectal Surgeon and is a member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand. He is a Senior Lecturer in Surgery at the Cabrini Monash University Department of Surgery, and is actively involved in colorectal research.   He is the Chairman of the Australian and New Zealand Training Board in Colon and Rectal Surgery and is the past Chairman of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Committee, Victorian Cooperative Oncology Group, The Cancer Council, Victoria and Editor of Gastrointestinal Cancer Update. Mr. Bell is constantly upgrading his education with regular attendances at national and international conferences. He also gives lectures, seminars and runs surgical workshops to train other surgeons, being a regular invited speaker at numerous international meetings.

Mr Bell completed his medical degree at Monash University in 1991, and trained in General Surgery at The Alfred Hospital. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2000, and went on to Specialist Colorectal training on the Australasian Colorectal Training Programme. He subsequently worked at the center of excellence Hôpital Saint-Antoine, Paris, France with the assistance of winning the Murray and Unity Phiels Colorectal Fellowship.

His major interests include laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery.   He treats all forms of colorectal disease including  cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's & ulcerative colitis), diverticular disease and bowel dysfunction.   He also manages bowel bleeding, abdominal pain and performs hernia surgery. He is a member of the CSSANZ, and the Chairman of the Training Board in Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is involved in research and training of specialist colorectal surgeons.
