Biography

Dr. Snigdha Misra is an Assoc. Professor at Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia. She is a Nutritionist by training. She was awarded as the Fellow of Nutrition Society of Malaysia, in 2022.

She has completed her education in India, starting with her Undergraduate Degree from the College of Home Science, OUAT, Bhubaneswar. She obtained her Masters degree from Avinashilingam University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, in 1991 and completed her MPhil from the same university, in 1992. She worked at Odisha, India for 11 years and established the department of Home Science with Nutrition as a priority in 2 colleges in the state. Being trained as a Nutritionist, she embarked upon her journey of doctoral studies . She has worked on the Nutritional status  of the migrant population in eastern India. Her PhD thesis also focused on the food anthropology of the tribal population, displaced by the Bangladeshi migrants in that area.  

She worked at the Management & Science University , Shah Alam, Malaysia and developed the Bachelors in Nutrition Programme. She later moved on to the International Medical University (IMU), Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia in 2010 and  continued until September 2023.

Her main area of research interest is in Public Health Nutrition and maternal and Child Health. She is a reviewer for a couple of journals with her publications in various peer-reviewed journals.

Besides being a health care professional, she is proficient in Curriculum designing, Academic management and Educational Leadership.  She is actively engaged in Faculty Development activities, like Mentoring the Mentors, small group teaching, Fundamentals of teaching- learning, etc.

She was also appointed as the Senior Advisor for East Asia, under Choices International Foundation, Netherlands (2019-2021).

Her community project in collaboration with an Industry Partner, on- Improving the appetite of the elderly through application of Umami, earned her team a Silver Award for the Best Community Programme at the 9th Annual Global CSR Summit & Awards and the Global Good Governance Awards 2017 held in Langkawi, Malaysia. 

Research interests

Her main area of research interest is in Public Health Nutrition and maternal and Child Health. She is currently working on sustainable nutrition across the life span. Some of her specific research areas are; Gestational diabetes, micronutrients status, Glycemic Index, Geriatric Nutrition.  She is a reviewer for a couple of journals with her publications in various peer-reviewed journals.
