Biography
Previous employment: Centre for Human Psychopharmacology (CHP), Swinburne University; Melbourne Sleep Disorders Centre; St Vincents' Private Hospital; and the School of Exercise and Nutrition Science at Deakin University.
Research interests include the potential health-enhancing mechanisms of medications, novel pharmaceuticals, exercise and nootropic supplements, as well as direct effects on brain and cognitive function.
Dr Catchlove has overseen clinical trials investigating the efficacy of medicinal cannabis on muscle inflammation, insomnia, driving impairment, and the behavioural and neurophysiological effects of cannabinoids in children with autism spectrum disorder. Recently completed projects include the effects of cannabis medication on driving performance; observational studies investigating the efficacy of different types of cannabis medication; a large-scale project with the Australian Defence Force Science and Technology group investigating gut microbiota, stress resilience and cognitive performance in Army recruits.
Current projects include clinical trials investigating the efficacy of oxytocin nasal spray in reducing methamphetamine use in women; efficacy of N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) in reducing alcohol use in alcohol use disorder (AUD); MDMA-assisted psychotherapy in ameliorating symptoms of PTSD and alcohol use in comorbid PTSD AUD.
