Biography

Sara Brito is a lecturer Occupational Therapy in the School of Primary and Allied Health Care, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University. She teaches into the Graduate Entry and Undergraduate courses.

Sara completed her professional qualification in occupational therapy at Curtin University and worked in a private hospital’s rehabilitation ward before starting work in a private hand therapy clinic in Canberra. After moving to Melbourne, she became involved with rehabilitation following brachial plexus injury.

She started her academic career when she commenced her PhD (2015- present). Her PhD aims to better understand recovery and participation following brachial plexus injury from a psychosocial and occupational perspective. She is also assisting with a number of Monash-based research projects related to teaching and learning.

I'm interested in optimising health and well-being outcomes for individuals following upper limb injury. This is important because poor outcomes adversely effect the patient, their community and broader society. My work aims to benefit patients, their communities and health professionals working with these patients by providing improved health care and subsequently improved patient outcomes.
