Dr. Sandeep Gopal is a DECRA Research Fellow affiliated with the Development and Stem Cells Program at the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute and the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology.

Sandeep started his career as a Biotechnology engineer in India. He completed his doctorate degree from the  University of Copenhagen under the supervision of renowned proteoglycan researcher Professor John Couchman. During his PhD studies, Sandeep identified the overriding function of proteoglycans in cytosolic calcium regulation. After completing his Ph.D., Sandeep continued his research at the Institute of Biology Valrose (iBV), France and the University of Copenhagen. In 2015, Sandeep was recruited to Monash University to study the role of proteoglycans in stem cell development. Sandeep is currently supported by NHMRC project grants and ARC DECRA.
