Sam is interested in understanding how cells within a growing organ coordinate a range of mechanical and signalling inputs to ensure robustness and consistency of size and shape during development. These processes are vital for correct tissue and organ function and are deregulated in many diseases, including cancer. He uses live imaging and genetic approaches to investigate gene function in normal and disease settings.
He completed his PhD in Kieran Harvey's laboratory, using the vinegar fly as a model system to investigate the regulation of a key component of the Hippo growth control pathway.
