Personal profile

Biography

I am Deputy Director for the Monash Herb Feith Indonesian Engagement Centre and Assistant Professor of Public Policy and Management at Monash University, Indonesia. As 2014 Arryman Fellow and 2015 Arryman Scholar, I am affiliated with the Institute for Advanced Research Consortium (IFAR).

I completed my doctoral training in comparative politics and international relations at the Department of Political Science in Northwestern University, Illinois, U.S.A. My dissertation is entitled “The Butterfly Effect: Stealth Politics by the Reformist Women’s Movement in Indonesia in the Struggle for Gender Equality, 1945-Present.”

Prior to joining Monash, I was policy analyst for the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. I co-led the teams within the Ministry that were appointed to formulate the strategies and policies for addressing gender based violence including sexual violence within Indonesia’s institutions of higher education.

Research interests

I am particularly interested in conducting or supervising studies that address the challenges of and opportunities for reducing, mitigating, or preventing further inequalities at the community, policy, or both levels. Cases of inequalities can be either based on or intersect with gender, ethnicity, race, religion, disabilities, and socioeconomic status. Studies can either focus on Indonesia or examine any one or more of the Southeast and Northeast Asian countries. I am keen to conduct or supervise studies with an interdisciplinary approach, a historical comparative framework, qualitative methods, or mixed methods.
