Personal profile

Biography

Dr Russell Tsuchida completed his PhD in probabilistic machine learning at The University of Queensland in 2020. He was then appointed at Data61 under a CSIRO Early Career Researcher Fellowship, before transitioning into a Research Scientist in 2022. He is now a Lecturer at Monash University's Faculty of Information Technology.

Dr Tsuchida's work advances our understanding of core probabilistic machine learning methods such as Bayesian neural networks, Gaussian processes, and density estimation modelling. He regularly publishes in top Core A* venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR and AAAI. His NeurIPS 2023 paper received a spotlight award, and his TMLR 2023 paper earned an expert certification.

He is passionate about the scientific process, and as an internationally recognised advancing early career researcher, is often called upon to review for NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI, UAI, AISTATS and others. His service has been recognised with reviewer awards from NeurIPS, ICLR, AISTATS and TMLR. He currently serves as an action editor for TMLR. Through internal and external collaborations, Dr Tsuchida's research has helped to attract a shared total of over $900k in funding.
