Biography
Associate Professor Ronil V. Chandra is an academic NeuroInterventional Radiologist at Monash Health and Monash University. He received his Diagnostic Neuroradiology Fellowship from The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia prior to moving to Boston, United States of America, where, after a further two years of specialty training, he received his Fellowship in NeuroInterventional Radiology from Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
As a senior clinician at Monash Health, Ronil led the development of the multidisciplinary Endovascular Clot Retrieval service for ischaemic stroke, which is now established as a designated statewide service across the South East of Victoria. He also works as part of the multidisciplinary Neurovascular Surgery service, utilising his expertise in all aspects of Neurovascular Radiology in treating patients with cerebrovascular conditions of the brain and spinal cord.
Ronil’s current leadership positions include, Head of NeuroInterventional Radiology, Head of Stroke Imaging and Endovascular Clot Retrieval, and Head of Neurovascular Imaging research at Monash Health.
With an active interest in innovative research methodologies and leveraging the capabilities of advancing digital technology, Ronil aims to successfully translate research outcomes into clinical practice that benefits all members of the community.
Ronil is a recipient of grant funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia to help improve outcomes for patients with brain aneurysm related subarachnoid haemorrhage. His h-index is 20 with over 3500 citations on Scopus, and he has authored over 100 peer reviewed publications, including in the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet Neurology, and American Journal of Neuroradiology. His research output involves numerous interdisciplinary researchers from 13 countries.
His academic service roles include Victorian representative to the Council of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Neuroradiology, and the first Australian representative to the Neurovascular Council of the American Society of Neuroradiology.
