Biography

My PhD studies in molecular biology formed the genesis of ongoing translational renal research, with post-doctoral studies in the University of Melbourne Department of Medicine at St. Vincent's Hospital leading to ongoing clinical and molecular research. As well as maintaining a busy clinical load in nephrology, I have further developed research interests in the mutually dependent areas of the molecular analysis of human kidney diseases, of establishing opportunities for translational research and on the development of new therapies for the treatment of chronic kidney disease.

My work with Professor Kelly's team in the University of Melbourne Department of Medicine has resulted in the successful development of novel anti-fibrotic agents for use in renal and other chronic end-organ diseases, dis coveries that led to the establishment of Fibrotech.

As a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Fibrotech, I was integral to the design and conduct of the successful Phase 1 study of the lead agent FT-011, this work leading to commercial success, with the international sale of Fibrotech. Though opportunity to publish and to attract grants has been limited by commercial-in-confidence issues with these novel agents, the work resulted in enormous outcomes both real and potential.

I am a well-established clinical researcher of both industry-funded and investigator-initiated clinical trials across the renal clinical spectrum, with a well honed awareness of the great importance of collaborations in maintaining a fruitful research career.
