Biography

Dr Robert O'Reilly is an Early Career Researcher with the Precision Medicine team at Monash University and also affiliated with the Monash Victorian Heart Institute.

Robert is a molecular geneticist with experience in both wet and dry lab work. He received his PhD in Disease Ecology in 2023 from Flinders University, South Australia. During his PhD training, Robert applied a range of molecular genomics and bioinformatics techniques to investigate host-pathogen interactions in a non-model organism.

In 2023, he joined Monash University where he now applies his expertise to several projects led by the Precision Medicine team. Examples of these projects include:

  • Population-based screening for clonal haematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) variants as part of a larger, multidisciplinary, project interested in CHIP association and the progression of cardiovascular diseases.
  • The integration of genomics and epigenomics (methylation) to identify risk factors for breast and prostate cancer.

Robert’s research focus is guided by a passion for applying cutting-edge technologies to advance the field of precision medicine and translating findings into clinical practice.
