Biography

Dr Renee Crawford is an educator with several years experience in higher education and as a secondary music classroom, instrumental and ensemble teacher. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Monash University and a Research and Evaluation Consultant for various organisations. She teaches across secondary discipline methods, teacher education and research education units and has published both nationally and internationally in her field. Her previous positions involved managing high profile national research projects in collaboration with The University of Melbourne, Victoria University, Australian Council of Education Research and research consultancy Educational Transformations. The significance, impacts and outcomes of these research projects has influenced governmental education, immigration and Arts and culture policy. Her musical interests are in composition, film music, minimalism, the analysis of contemporary Australian music and the use of digital technology in music. She is an advocate for technology used in education in an effective way.

As an advocate for the use of technology in education in an appropriate and contemporary way, her PhD research completed at Monash University was based on the philosophy of authentic learning and technology in music teaching and learning practices.
