Rebecca Forgasz is Associate Professor (Practice) of Community Engagement and Intercultural Communication in the Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation, where she is responsible for leading the Centre’s strategy for community and industry engagement, and for enhancing the social and cultural impact of the Centre’s research.
Rebecca has over 20 years’ experience working in the Melbourne Jewish community as an educator, curator and CEO. Prior to taking up her role at Monash in late 2019, she was the Director & CEO of the Jewish Museum of Australia, which she led a period of significant organisational development and creative revitalisation. Key achievements during her tenure were the commissioning and delivery of Amy Winehouse: A Family Portrait, the most successful exhibition in the Museum’s history, and the establishment of Multicultural Museums Victoria, an alliance of Melbourne’s five multicultural museums.
Rebecca previously worked at the State Library of Victoria and Public Record Office Victoria in exhibition management roles, and at Monash University’s Advancement Division as Manager, Donor Stewardship and Recognition.
Over her career, Rebecca has developed extensive experience in strategic planning, project management, grant writing, development of philanthropic relationships and stakeholder engagement. She is a popular presenter and public speaker and a trusted voice in the Melbourne Jewish community.
