Research interests

I am highly interested in studying cellular interactions within the gut wall, with a particular focus on enteric neurons, glia and macrophages. An understanding of how cells are organised and communicate with each other in healthy tissue will give us a blueprint for whats normal. This in turn gives us insight into what goes wrong in diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and Hirschsprung's disease.

I use a combination of calcium imaging, confocal microscopy and advanced 3D image analysis to accomplish this. I am particularly interested in the application of machine learning methods for streamlining image analysis in biomedical research.
