Biography
I joined the Department of Management in September 2018, after obtaining my PhD in Supply Chain and Operations Management from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. This followed a Master’s degree in Electronic Commerce and Internet Computing from the University of Hong Kong, and a Bachelor’s degree in Global Supply Chain Management, also from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Before my academic journey, I accumulated a wealth of practical experience in the retail and logistics industry, serving in roles such as a buyer and consultant. This industry experience continues to inform my teaching and research, offering invaluable real-world perspectives.
My main research interests are: (1) Sustainable and Responsible Operations and Supply Chain Management, and (2) Buyer-Supplier Networks in Global Supply Chains. My work in these areas has been recognized and published in esteemed journals such as Manufacturing and Service Operations Management (ABDC A*; FT50; UTD24), Journal of Operations Management (ABDC A*; FT50; UTD24), and Production and Operations Management (ABDC A*; FT50; UTD24).
In the realm of sustainable operations, my research is devoted to helping companies comprehend and alleviate the impact of their environmental incidents, as well as curbing environmental pollution through improved inspection mechanisms. One of my research pieces, examining the effect of environmental incidents on a firm's market value in a Chinese context, was published in Manufacturing and Service Operations Management. This study, which was one of the first to analyze the impact of environmental incidents throughout the supply chain using secondary data, was not only the featured article in the journal’s 2018 quarterly issue but also received the Responsible Research in Management: Inaugural IACMR Presidential Award. Our research team have also used a business analytics approach to create a 'risk' scoring system, capable of detecting more violations by inspecting fewer firms compared with the existing and random mechanism. This research was featured in the 30th-anniversary issue of the Production and Operations Management journal.
In the second area of my research, my focus is on aiding firms in creating supply chain structures that are resilient in volatile environments. My work investigating the impact of the U.S.-China Trade War on U.S. firms' operational performance, along with the role of outsourcing and supply base complexity, was published in the Journal of Operations Management. This paper, which coincided with ongoing discussions about the continuation of tariffs under President Biden, garnered media attention and was referenced in both local and international news outlets in Hong Kong.
Moving forward, I am continuing to explore the impact of supply chain networks on suppliers' learning, the effect of overseas expansion on firms' environmental performance, and the impact of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) on firm value.
In addition to my research endeavors, I have served in various editorial roles. I am currently the Oceania Regional Co-Editor for the Journal of Supply Chain Management and an Editorial Review Board member for the Decision Sciences Journal. I have also co-edited a special issue for the Journal of Operations Management. Additionally, I serve as an ad hoc reviewer for journals including Production and Operations Management, Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review, International Journal of Production Economics, and Industrial Management & Data Systems, among others.
