Community service

Associate Professor Paul Watt is editor of the Royal Musical Association Research Chronicle and he serves on the Publications Committee of the Royal Musical Association.

He writes occasional reviews for Australian Book Review and Music & Letters.

Research interests

Paul Watt researchers the social, cultural, religious and intellectual history of music ranging from the late eighteenth century to the present. His research has been funded by many fellowships, grants and awards including the Australian Research Council (Discovery Early Career Researcher Award, 2012–2015) and the European Union (COFUND Senior Fellowship, 2016–2017).

Supervision interests

Western classical music and musicology; popular music in the nineteenth century. Biography and life-writing. Religious and intellectual history and historiography.

Paul Watt has served as an assessor for scholarship published by Bloomsbury, Cambridge University Press, Lexington, Oxford University Press, Palgrave, Sage, and Routledge. 

He has examined PhD theses from the universities of Adelaide, Queensland, Western Australia and Durham University (UK).
