Biography

Professor Pathmanathan joined Monash University as Professor of Anatomical Pathology in April 2009. He is currently Senior Consultant Pathologist and Laboratory Director in the Sime Darby Medical Centre, Subang Jaya. Presently, he also holds posts as Adjunct Professor of Pathology in Manipal University (Manipal campus) and is Honorary Professor of Pathology in the University Of Malaya Faculty Of Medicine.

Professor Pathmanathan graduated from the University of Malaya in 1978, completed his Master of Pathology with distinction, and was at that time the first, and continues to be, among the few to be awarded a distinction for a doctoral thesis in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. He is Fellow of both the Royal Colleges of UK and Australasia and is an active Member of the College of American Pathologists. Before leaving for private practice in 1998, he was Professor of Pathology in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, and Deputy Dean, Postgraduate Affairs.

He has received many awards and fellowships, and has served as Consultant to IAEA, the Regensburg Tumour Registry and has worked as a Consultant in Head and Neck Pathology to the Lineberger Cancer Comprehensive Cancer Research Centre, North Carolina.

He is an established researcher with more than 200 scientific publications in international and peer-reviewed journals and serves on the Editorial Board of Pathology.

Research interests

Breast and colorectal cancer, telepathology and digital imaging.
