He holds a Master of Medical Anatomy from Kasturba Medical College (Manipal University) and a PhD in Diabetes and Neuroscience from Manipal University. Dr Narendra has extensive teaching and research expertise as an Assistant Professor at various medical institutes in India (KMC & MMMC: Manipal). He taught clinically oriented anatomy for MBBS, BDS, Allied Health, Biomedical, and Nursing students. He joined the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences (JSCMHS) in 2013 and is currently the Coordinator for the Anatomy discipline.

For outstanding academic performance in undergraduate studies, Dr Narendra secured the TJPS College Topper Award and merit Certificate (1999). His passion for anatomy education and research has been honoured with the 'Annual Best audio-visual Award' (2009), the "Best Presenter Award" (2018), the "Pro-Vice-Chancellor Award for Excellence in Education" (Individual category, 2020), "Pro-Vice-Chancellor Award for Excellence in Educational leadership" (Individual category, 2022), Commendation, JCSMHS GR Publication (2022), ITEX Gold Medal (2023). He serves as an external examiner for several medical schools.

Dr Narendra has published over 65 peer-reviewed research papers, and case series on diabetes, neuroscience, and variable architecture of the human body. He is on the editorial boards of numerous medical journals and serves as a reviewer for them. Dr Narendra has been successful in obtaining both internal and external research funding (ECR, GA 21, Education Excellence, Learning & Teaching, FRGS etc..). He has supervised several research projects (PhD, Master & Honors), and his students have won first place in several competitions. Dr Narendra also serves as a mentor for graduates, postdocs, and young faculty at the American Association of Anatomy network. His current research is focused on medical education (anatomy & peer mentoring), diabetes & neuroscience.
