Biography

Dr Ong joined as a Lecturer in the School of Information Technology at Monash University Malaysia in 2019. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, and both her master’s and doctoral degrees from Universiti Putra Malaysia, specialising in Intelligent Computing. While pursuing her postgraduate studies, Dr Ong taught undergraduate computer science courses and was actively involved in academic programme coordination at private universities in Malaysia. Prior to that, she was attached to the software testing group of Board Design Center Malaysia at Intel Product Malaysia for one year. In terms of professional development, she is currently an IEEE Professional Member, ACM Professional Member, MBOT Professional Technologist, and AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner.

Research interests

Dr Ong’s interests are mainly in artificial intelligence, data mining, bioinformatics, and software engineering. Her recent research centres on using intelligence techniques to identify cancer biomarkers through omics data, such as microarray gene expression data. In her publications, she demonstrated how biological data could be analysed for discovering potential gene markers, which can be further investigated as cancer biomarkers for future clinical applications.

Apart from that, she has also worked on several research and development projects related to machine learning, speech recognition, gesture recognition, augmented reality, and intelligent systems.
