Biography

BSc (Hons), PhD, MBA, FAIM, FAICD, FWCLP

Professor Samaras has had over 30 years’ business experience in the global Life Sciences industry and is a recognised and respected industry expert. He has held a number of senior executive level positions in management, marketing, sales, and research and development. His roles have included appointments as Managing Director of Applied Biosystems Pty Ltd (now part of Thermo Fisher), and senior roles with Perkin Elmer and AMRAD Corporation (now part of CSL).

Professor Samaras has served on several expert committees of the National Health and Medical Research Council in Canberra over the past 10 years, including the Research Committee from 2006-12.

Professor Samaras has served on the boards of several Australian based technology companies and is currently the chairman of ASX listed diagnostics company Genetic Signatures, Deputy Chairman of Australian Genome Research Facility, Executive Chairman of equity investment company Platon Ventures and Managing Director of medical technology consulting company Australis Biosciences.

He holds a BSc(Hons) in Pathology and Immunology, Monash University, PhD from the Department of Medicine, University of Melbourne and an MBA from the School of Management, RMIT University, and is currently Enterprise Professor University of Melbourne, Professor (Practice), Monash University Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences, Professor at La Trobe University’s Institute for Molecular Sciences and Professor at the John Curtain School of Medical Research, Australia National University.
