Research interests

Nicholas is a synthetic organic chemist who’s work focuses on the design and synthesis of molecules that have applications within the areas of drug discovery and life sciences. Nicholas’ research interests include:

  • Anti-microbial therapies that enhance macrophage killing of M. tuberculosis and other bacteria.
  • Anti-retroviral therapies for HIV, including inhibitors of reverse transcriptase and integrase.
  • Bromodomain and kinase inhibitors for the treatment of inflammatory diseases.
  • The detection of proteases in inflammatory diseases using activity based probes and the development of protease inhibitors.
  • Lanthanide complexes for in situ determination of protein structure.
  • Ligands for GPCRs, including the adenosine receptors, adrenergic receptors and protease activated receptors.
