Biography
Associate Professor Nick McGuigan works as an Innovator, Instigator and Disruptor in Monash Business School to create future‐oriented business education programs that focus on innovation, creativity and design thinking. He has a particular passion for accountability where he co-instigated The Accountability Institute ‐ a progressive platform with an aim of fostering collaborations between art, science, technology and economics, bringing these fields into conversation to create a new language of accountability.
His research interests include student conceptions of and learning approaches to accounting, learning technologies, Integrated Reporting, innovation, systems design and regenerative economics. Nick has led and/or taken key roles in competitive research funded projects equating to just over one million Australian dollars, including Federal State level grants in both Australia and Germany.He has published widely in international accounting and education journals, presented at numerous conferences and been invited to present to professional accounting and research bodies in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Nick is the Director of Education in the Department of Accounting and instigated Monash Business School’s newly created Artist-In-Residence program and conceptually designed the world’s first ever accounting perfume.
Nick has taught in the areas of financial accounting, management accounting, auditing, applied research methods, introductory accounting and personal finance. He has held visiting academic positions in Germany, England and New Zealand and his teaching interests include supervision of research students, financial accounting, accounting theory, corporate social responsibility and introductory accounting.
Nick takes an active role in both educational and professional accounting associations working in service roles for American Accounting Association, Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales, Higher Education, Research and Development, Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand and CPA Australia, CA ANZ and IIA.

Consulting
- Commissioned by the Australian Institute for Internal Auditors (IIA) to design and develop a reflective practice module. Ongoing facilitation and webinar presentation of this module within their capstone unit.
- Invited on an International Aid Project for Coastal Displacement within the Solomon Islands. This project aims to aid local communities in personal transformation through financial literacy education and action.
- Commissioned to design and facilitate workshops in the area of social permaculture and alternative economics for organisations such as Blue Mountains Permaculture Institute, Milkwood Permaculture, Good Life Permaculture and the One Passionfruit Project.
