Biography

Dr Nicholas Khong is a Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Technology from the School of Pharmacy, Monash University Malaysia. He completed a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry & Microbiology and a PhD in Medical Biotechnology at Universiti Putra Malaysia, during which he received the Khazanah Watan Leadership Award 2010, the Kanazawa Research Fellowship Award 2011 and represented Malaysia in several occasions to present in China, Thailand and Taiwan. His broad research interests covers from converting nuisance organisms into biofunctional components through to the stabilization of various sensitive bioactive compounds for the development of nutraceutical, cosmeceutical and pharmaceuticals. Dr Nicholas consulted several companies for product registration, halal certification, GMP, ISO 9001: 2015 and ISO 17025: 2017.

Research interests

Dr Nicholas applies Blue and White Biotechnology to provide for nutraceutical, cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical solution and remedies. His research interest is in experimental dermatology and immunobiology, specifically towards the production of functional biomaterials, development of anti-inflammatory components and understanding of immunomodulatory molecules. His research experstise involves microbiological valorization, particularly probiotic bacteria, fungi and microalgae; validation and development of analytical & biochemical methods; as well as pilot production and commercial establishment of active components.
