Biography

As a structural geologist, my research interests predominantly focus on how natural processes control the development of microstructural features in geological materials, and how we can use such features to understand the mechanical behaviour of rocks that are inaccessible to us at the surface. A key component of my research is the characterisation of rock textures (crystallographic preferred orientations) using neutron diffraction, through which we can visualise and understand important earth processes on the crystal scale. I am particularly interested in developing quantitative approaches to analysing the microstructural characteristics of quartz, an abundant mineral that occurs across a range of geological settings.
