Biography

Dr Moorina Bonini is a leading figure in Indigenous-led and practice-led research, whose work challenges colonial narratives and regenerates cultural knowledge through non-traditional research outputs, particularly exhibitions. Her practice interrogates Western binaries imposed on Aboriginal peoples, creating space for self-determined representation. A passionate educator and collaborator, she leads the BLK1000: Indigenous Australian Creative Practice & Ways of Knowing unit at Monash University in the faculty of Monash Art, Design & Architecture. The unit is designed to inform and shape future creative practitioners through Indigenous ways of knowing, doing, and being. Her significant contributions span national and international platforms, fellowships, and major exhibitions, making her a vital force in advancing Indigenous methodologies and creative research in Australia and beyond.
