Mizan Ahmed is a Research Fellow in the Department of Civil Engineering at Monash University, Australia. He obtained his PhD degree in Structural Engineering from Victoria University, Melbourne. His research interests include computational mechanics, steel-concrete composite structures, steel structures, concrete structures, disaster resilience study, and earthquake engineering.
My research interest is broad and diverse from conducting research related to civil and structural engineering to research related to natural disasters e.g. earthquake engineering, modeling community resilience. However, my principal research expertise is on investigating the behavior of steel-concrete composite structures under different loading conditions both experimentally and numerically. Currently, I am working on a research project to develop, design and evaluate the performance of constructional equipment funded by the industry. Previously, I worked as a research assistant to investigate the durability and reliability of concrete structures in the field of transportation. The research was involved in undertaking a forensic investigation of the failure of steel reinforcement concrete due to corrosion and analyze the database provided by the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources, Victoria (DEDJTR) and Department of Transport for NSW to establish the extent of the problem in Victoria and NSW, Australia. Some of my other research work includes developing resilience models for the community in the context of natural disaster hazards and developing a stochastic model to investigate the ground motion of Bangladesh for different earthquake scenarios. Most of my research is well recognized by publishing and presenting in prestigious international journals and conferences.
