### Biography

Michael works in the School of Mathematical Sciences in the Faculty of Science at Monash University as an Associate Professor.

### Research interests

- High-Reynolds-number flows and boundary-layer theory, including flow separation;
- Geophysical fluid dynamics on an f- and beta-plane, especially at small Ekman numbers;
- Diffusion-driven flows in a viscous stratified fluid;
- Computational fluid dynamics.

### Supervision interests

If you are interested in undertaking studies towards a PhD under my supervision, some possible areas for research projects might include:

- The dynamics of rotating fluids - especially for geophysical applications on an f- and beta-plane;
- High-Reynolds-number flows, boundary-layer theory and flow separation;
- Diffusion-driven flows in a viscous stratified fluid;
- Singular perturbation theory and asymptotic expansions;
- Computational fluid dynamics - mostly based on careful finite-difference and/or PS approximation, as opposed to using packages.
