Biography

Dr Maytham Hussein is a Research Fellow and Team Leader in Anti-infective Pharmacology at the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute. His research focuses on antimicrobial pharmacology and multi-omics approaches to understand antibiotic action, tolerance, and resistance. He integrates metabolomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and systems pharmacology to define cellular adaptations to antibiotic stress, with a particular emphasis on glycopeptide antibiotics and bacterial cell wall biosynthesis. Dr Hussein’s work spans clinical and mechanistic microbiology, aiming to translate omics-derived insights into improved therapeutic strategies and predictive models that strengthen antibiotic efficacy.
