Mathews Thomas is a lecturer in the Department of Business Law and Taxation.

Mathews joined the Malaysian Campus of the Department in 1998 as a lecturer and department coordinator, and subsequently moved to the Clayton Campus in 2005. Prior to Mathews' appointments at Monash University, he was the head of school at the School of Economics, University of London Programme at Stamford College. Other prior academic appointments include being an assistant lecturer at the University of New South Wales.

Mathews has received several Teaching awards namely: the Monash University Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Team-based Educational Development (2003); the Dean's Teaching Award for Excellence - Monash University (Faculty of Business and Economics) ( 2004); the Business Law and Taxation Team Teaching award (2009); and the Monash University Student Association's 'Lecturer of the Year Award' in 2003 and 2004.

Mathews holds a Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University, Bachelor of Laws from the University of New South Wales and a Master of Laws from Monash University.

 He is a member of the Asia-Pacific Business Regulation Group in the Department. He received the Dean's Commendation for Research Excellence (2007) - Monash University (Faculty of Business and Economics).
