Personal profile

Dr Mary Tolcos is a developmental neurobiologist and part of the Fetal and Neonatal Health Group at The Ritchie Centre. Her research encompasses the fields of developmental neuroscience and pediatrics and is specifically aimed at understanding the causes and consequences of being born in a suboptimal intrauterine environment on the developing brain. Mary has, or is currently studying the effects of intrauterine growth restriction, fetal hypoxia/ischemia and intrauterine inflammation on the developing brain. She is also trialling a number of putative neuroprotective agents to prevent brain injury or repair injury once it has occurred.
