Personal profile

Biography

Dr Marcela Gallardo Lazo is a lecturer and researcher at the Monash Intercultural Lab. Prior to commencing her lecturing position, she graduated in English Pedagogy (Bachelor of Education, Universidad San Sebastian, Chile) and taught English as a second language at primary, secondary and tertiary levels in Chile and internationally for years.

She left Chile in 2015 as she was awarded a scholarship for exceptional mid-career professionals. She came to Australia to pursue a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). In 2016 she was awarded another scholarship for exceptional mid-career professionals but this time to complete her doctoral studies. Her PhD research investigated the role and place of Emotional Intelligence (EI) in teacher education courses. Her study by publication addressed the gap in where and how EI sits in two teacher education degrees. Besides, it argued pre-service teachers (PSTs) preparation and how EI has been taught and included as part of the degree.
