Biography
Liza is a teaching affiliate and PhD candidate in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University. Liza commenced teaching at Monash University in January 2010 and currently teaches Public Health Nutrition and Food Sustainability Systems units for BNutSci, BND and MND students. Liza also co-convenes Australia's Right to Food Coalition (Vic/Tas Chapter) and is part of the Dietitians Association of Australia's Food and Environment committee.
Liza is an Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian (AdvAPD) with over a decade of practical experience in Community Dietetics and Public Health Nutrition. Liza has worked in the Pilbara and Gascoyne regions of remote Western Australia, Alice Springs, the Kingdom of Tonga and Metropolitan Melbourne. Most recently, Liza worked as the National Nutrition Programs Manager at SecondBite, a non-profit food rescue organisation where she developed, implemented and evaluated two programs which build capacity and long-term food security amongst individuals experiencing hardship throughout Australia.
Liza's PhD seeks to describe the role of local governments in promoting healthy and environmentally sustainable food behaviours, and to understand the way that evidence is used in developing these policy interventions.
